Sept 16 June Cashmere with Amy Swanson
Amy Swanson, USA Operations Manager for June Cashmere, will take us to Kyrgyzstan in her talk about Kyrgyzstan’s textile history, the recent discovery of highest quality cashmere goats, a peak at shepherd life in Kyrgyzstan, and the strides that June Cashmere founder Sy Belohlavek and his team are making toward the ethical and sustainable production of cashmere in Kyrgyzstan. With the goal of economic development for Kyrgyzstan, Sy is in the process of establishing a cashmere processing mill in the capital city of Bishkek. This will allow work with additional shepherds throughout Kyrgyzstan, provide jobs in the city, and hopefully encourage additional investment in-country. Additionally, Amy will share insights about cashmere in general and June Cashmere’s yarn production and qualities specifically. . . and if the time change with Kyrgyzstan-Dayton allows, we will call in live to Sy in Kyrgyzstan to allow interactive engagement and questions with Sy directly.
Vendor: A pop-up shop will be available with some of the June Cashmere products

Buttonholes are the reason most knitters prefer to knit pullovers. It isn’t always easy to decide where to place them and it is difficult to make them look neat and tidy. Arenda will condense her 3-hour presentation to a 1 hour format. The notes from her full workshop will be available at the meeting. Please bring medium weight yarn, needles appropriate for the yarn and scissors.

November 18: Mini Workshop on Intarsia with Arenda Holladay 1:00-4:00PM
Intarsia is a technique where blocks of color are worked with separate balls of yarn to create a “picture.” Color changes can occur anywhere in the row and there is no limit to the number of colors used.
Most intarsia designs are worked in stockinette and the gauge and drape of the fabric is similar to regular stockinette stitch. The yarns must be twisted at the joins to prevent holes. Intarsia designs generally are not worked on circular needles since the yarn would be in the wrong position to begin the next row.Signup sheets for the workshop will be available at the October meeting. Contact Monica MacFarland if you cannot attend the meeting. Participation in the workshop is based on paid signups. The cost for DKG members is $20, non-members $30. DKG members do get priority for available slots for the program. Plan to bring your own lunch. Here’s a link to the Arenda Holladay Sign Up Sheet
