    • Sept 15-16 A Wool Gathering

      2 Hour Shifts

      We need at least 3 knitters for each shift to talk about membership, sell DKG items, and to help people learn how to knit or to help with knitting problems or questions. Helpers may want to bring their own chairs for comfort. Woolgathering Web Site

    • Sept 17 Knitting Around the Edge with Monica MacFarland

      Bring some yarn, needles and a set of dpns.

      We will knit up and around a variety of edges including hems with and without picot, a set of “quiet” edges such as applied i-cord, no-edge edging (who knew), and reverse stockinette stitch roll. These edges are not very noticeable, yet useful for reinforcing and stabilizing edges. If there is time we will tackle an applied lace edge.

    • Sept 22 Autumn Fest at Learning Tree Farm

      Learning Tree Farm Autumn Fest

      DKG will have a demonstration table. This is a wonderful family and child centered event on a teaching farm, bring your kids and grandkids for a delightful day. Sign up at the meeting to volunteer for this event.

 

    • Oct 15 Elizabeth’s Percentage System aka EPS with Monica MacFarland

      Learn how to design your own Yoke sweater with the yarn and needles of your choice using Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Percentage System. Once you are familiar with the concept you can work out basic patterns for any raglan, drop shoulder and yoke sweater.

Oct 20 & Nov 3 EPS Workshop: Monica MacFarland at St. Mary’s Center

Cost for both sessions $30 (yarn is included) (non-guild members $65). Class limit 20. The guild is subsidizing the cost for members.

Bring food to share for a light lunch.

Using EPS we will knit a doll size sweater to become comfortable using Elizabeth’s Percentage System.

Bring size 5 or 6 16- inch circular needles and dpn’s and the usual kit. Yarn will be provided.

Session One (Oct 20): We will become familiar with EPS, calculate the percentages, fill out the gauge page and work on the body and sleeves of the wee garment. You will have time to finish these pieces up to the underarm at home.

Session Two (Nov 3): We will combine the body with the sleeves and get going on the yoke with short rows to raise the back neck and adding colorwork designs and the decreases that shape the shoulders.

 

 

    • Nov 19   Brioche   with Shelley Stevens

      The basic brioche stitch appears similar to a K1P1 ribbing but is actually a much loftier fabric.
      Bring needles and some yarn and we will learn the basic brioche knit (brk) and brioche purl (brp) stitches.
      Once you learn the basic stitches you can make cables and lovely lacy patterns in one or two colors.

    • Jan 21   CANCELLED – Due to bad weather

      The meeting for Monday January 21st is cancelled due to bad weather warnings. Dayton Public Schools have cancelled all activities for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. That means the DKG meeting is also cancelled for Monday, January 21st. We’re moving Heather’s presentation to February.

    • Feb 18   Double Knitting  with Heather Janney

      Bring two colors of wash cloth cotton yarn such as Sugar and Cream or Peaches and Cream and size 1 and 3 needles.
      We will start a small project using double knitting, a reversible two-color design technique.

    • Mar 18   Knitting Socks on two Circs or Magic Loop   with Sandy Kulik

      If you haven’t knit socks on circular needles or if you want to improve your socks skills don’t miss this meeting. You will be given instructional information and shown how to use Magic Loop – one long needle or if you prefer 2 shorter circular needles. Socks are made from the top down. For our meeting, Sandy’s Winter Weight Sock pattern will be used.

      Handouts will also include Sandy’s patterns for both Magic Loop and 2 circular needles for sock weight yarn.

      Materials needed DK or light worsted yarn – 400 yards and 32” or 40” – #5 or #6 needle.

      Sandy will have a knit-in in the afternoon on Monday after her program so that people can get more help if they need it. Please bring a bag lunch.

    • Apr 15   Knitting Traditions that Steek   Lynn McCown

      A look at the history of steeking and the small differences in its contemporary techniques. Samples, but no hands on work, and a discussion of the yarns used.

    • Apr 26-28   24th Retreat at Bergamo with Margaret Radcliff

      Yarn Market will include local and regional shops and is open to retreat participants and the public during the following hours:
      Friday, April 26 3 PM to 7 PM
      Saturday, April 27 10 AM to 6 PM

      Retreat Show and Tell is Saturday night from 7-9. All are welcome to attend.

    • May 20   Tools of the Trade   with Monica MacFarland

      A demonstration of the large variety of knitting tools and how to use them.

  • June 2   Dayton Dragons Game

    A limited number of tickets are available for a “stitch and pitch” group rate at the Dayton Dragon’s game. This year the tickets are in the shade.

  • June 17   Annual Indoor Picnic and Yarn Over Sale

    This is your chance to sell, trade, or share your yarn, books, UFOs and other knitting paraphernalia. Please label items for sale with your name and the price. If you do not know the person who is selling an item – just ask one of the board members, they will be happy to point out the seller. DKG merchandise will also be available for sale. Stock up if you missed it at the Yarn Market. Evening meeting attendees are encouraged to come early – have supper, visit, and knit. It’s also a good time to renew your membership – save time and a stamp!

    NOTE: This is our all-day KNIT-IN. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Bring: Covered dish, soup, salad or dessert to share. Please come even if you don’t have time to bring something to share. The Guild will provide drinks and table service.
