Hitchhiking on the 3rd of July…

imageI’m going to name it, My 4th of July Hitchhiker. Can’t wear it till September or October. It’s been warm at the September DKG meetings. Can’t wear a shawlette then. This is my second one. I think I’ll make 12 of them and name them. First one was all in greens. Anyone of you 114 knitters/bloggers have a Hitchhiker to share? Patty Lyons is coming to town. Sounds like Christmas. No really. Patty Lyons is the best. I see her designs everywhere in my emails. The info about all of her classes are on Craftsy or on her website. I bet all of her classes are full this month in Centerville. I’m just Knitting hitchhikers and using a technique she taught me. It’s that ‘increase’ where you knit into the stitch and then go to knit into the back of that same stitch but don’t knit it, just slip it. You don’t get that horizontal stitch. Love that lesson. I love the tips on the Hitchhiker. The shawlette is a long, wide scarf done on long US 3 knitting needles.   I find myself increasing “Patty’s Way” in 3 different areas in its construction. To make the tip on a tip you need to increase at the end of the 7th row. Only mistake I made. I had to frog back a long way. I hate frogging and usually can accept a mistake. Lesson learned. Didn’t know it really mattered. It matters. You can buy the Hitchhiker Pattern on Ravelry for $4.51. It comes from europe. I didn’t know how much I was spending since it only showed up in the europian currency. It’s a bargain. You get it right now and you just need 575 Yds of self-striping sock yarn. I’m using 2 different colors (yes skeins). I didn’t have enough of one skein. When I’m 30 tips in I change color but keep the first color and go back and forth for 2 rows each. Join on smooth double increase side. Not 8th row; Purl first stitch, bind off 5 stitches or so. Moms making one that is all blues. She had 3 skeins of the same color. Probably could get 2 Hitchhikers out of those.

Happy 3rd of July!

September Knitting events…

Learning Tree Farm:
Hello knitters! We have a fun opportunity to share knitting with the community coming up in September. Learning Tree Farm will be having it’s annual Autumn Fest event September 23rd. We need knitters to participate in this event to promote knitting as an art to those who attend. Event hours are from 10am to 4pm. Volunteers can work in shifts to knit and show/teach others who will be at the farm who are interested in learning about knitting. Contact Lynn M. for details and to sign up to help at the event. Wool Gathering:
Hello Members,

The 2017 Wool Gathering at Young’s Dairy in Yellow Springs will be here before we know it. Currently we need volunteers for 2 hour shifts to man the Dayton Guild table to promote the guild, membership and knitting. The dates are September 16th and 17th. Hours for shifts are Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm. This is a great event held yearly to promote everything fiber so pick up a shift and while you’re there you can look around and find something to boost your knitting collection. Contact Lynn M. or Monica M. to sign up. Their contact information is in the guild directory and newsletter.
