We started off knitting the Garter Stitch, then knitted lace, then we did a little cabling and we finished on Sunday with Finishing Tips. If we weren’t knitting, we were shopping. There were 5 vendors at The Yarn Market plus the DKG Market where we were selling our new small project bags and other stuff. Carol Anderson’s daughter, Lori was selling all of Carol’s booklets. The Raffle was going on the whole time too. Mary and Kelly did a fantastic job this year with more than 100 Raffle items. Mary and Kelly gave out door prizes throughout the retreat also. Our Vendors donated most of these fabulous things.
The Garter Stitch project was started before the Retreat. Everyone made 3 red squares out of 100% wool yarn using US 5,6,&7 sized knitting needles. That way we could check our gauge. Which square looked more square? What were the measurements of all three? The 2″X2″ square was probably where most knitters started. This is an ambitious group project done by 48 knitters. We are making a Log Cabin Afghan for Barbara Richardson our DKG President. Barbara is stepping down as President this year. Wanda Royer (Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership chair) will be getting a well deserved knitted gift as well.
Jane Lippmann stole the show with her Shadow Knitting. She wore a fabulous tunic with Elvis on the back. Then she showed us “The Girl with the Pearl” done in an afghan. There were so many fabulous objects at the “Show and Share” portion of the retreat that you really had to be there to appreciate it.
We had several women show up on Saturday at 7:30 pm to watch this part of the retreat. Barbara had told DKG members at our last meeting that they could come to this part of the retreat. We have never opened up the Show and Share portion of the retreat to the DKG members before.
Carol Anderson was a joy to have as a teacher. Everyone could relax and not feel stressed out by too much lecturing. Carol gave a lot of hands-on instruction. If you needed any one on one time with Carol, she was there to oblige. We had 40 finished log cabin squares by the end of retreat. We only need 8 more and they will be donated at the May DKG meeting. We will be presenting the gifts for Barbara and Wanda at the June picnic. You won’t want to miss that. (If you weren’t at Retreat but want to make a square I can fix you up. Just call me and I will get you started)
During the retreat we presented Barbara and Wanda with a photo album filled with pictures of everyone at this years retreat. We all signed them. Christine Hall’s husband did a great job of taking all of the pictures. We were all working on our log cabin squares while we were being photographed. I think you can still order one of these books if you want to. Just ask Christine Hall to make you one for $25. They make a great souvenir.
Next years 23rd Annual DKG Retreat will be held April 20, 21 & 22 2018. Beth Brown-Reinsel will be our teacher. You better send your registration form in early next year. I’m sure this one will fill up fast.
What could be better. Cloudy sky’s, cool weather, Knitting Retreat, FUN….
( makes you think of sweaters) I’m wearing my lined jacket. I took a weekend off and went to a Knitting Retreat. It was nothing like this one. I’m bringing the BOBBLE MACHINE. Set up starts in 10 minutes. I will be putting up signs if anyone is looking for Heather. Raffle girls, Mary Owens and Kelly Gockel will be setting up in the Barrett Room. (We will rename it RAFFLE ROOM. (Also snack and drinks room)
10 am is YARN MARKET set up. HELP THEM if you can.

If you’re coming to the 22nd Annual Knitting Retreat featuring Carol Anderson, don’t forget to bring your homework. Remember to bring a cup with a lid if you plan on drinking at the classroom table. If you are spending the night please get your room assignment before you go to registration. Registration starts at 3pm. Dinner is served at 6pm. You will get a schedule with the handouts and there will be schedules posted.

Joyce has been judging knitting at the Ohio State Fair for a number of years now. She will share with us how to enter items and what criteria they look for when judging knitted items. We have some fabulous knitters in the Guild. Let’s try to get more member representation in the local fairs!

Barbara Richardson (Pres) is asking anyone that has a Door Prize or Raffle Prize to bring it to the meeting on Monday. We will get them to Mary and Kelly before Retreat.
Barbara Richardson, Wanda Royer and Kay Wolff have been the officers of The Dayton Knitting Guild for 25 years. They have done a stellar job at keeping the Guild alive. We are all so grateful for their dedication and service. Now it is time for a big change. We will be electing new officers in May 2017. If you are a member of our guild you have been given a Membership Directory. We have chosen a nominating committee. They are Peri Switzer, Sandy Kulik and Shelley Stevens. Their phone numbers and email addresses are in the Membership Directory. You can call any one of them to nominate someone for any of these 4 positions: President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer. A brief description of the duties were in the DKG March Newsletter, Call of the Wool. The nominee must be a member of The Dayton Knitting Guild. We will tell you who has been chosen at the April meeting and then we will take a vote at the May meeting. Winners will be announced at the June meeting.
